Lab is open for new members! Learn to play electronic music at NUS (National University of Singapore)

[Updated for 2026] If you want to learn how to play electronic music (house, techno, vocaloid, trap, hip hop, dubstep, hardstyle, cyberpunk, chill out, lo-fi, and many more) "live" and hands-on and you're a student (or going to be a student) at the National University of Singapore, come visit us at the NUS Electronic Music Lab (NUS EML). 

You don't need to have experience or own a Novation Launchpad or Ableton Push or Ableton Move or Akai MPC or any other live electronic music instrument, because we will teach you how to play using the Lab's gear. If you do have your own gear, please bring!

NUS EML is a performing arts group based at NUS Centre for the Arts (NUS UTown) that creates, performs, records, and promotes original electronic music.

Sequencing a Drum Pattern on the Ableton Push

This process uses the Push's Step Sequencer to visually place notes on a timeline, which is one of the fastest ways to build a loop. Step Sequencing Drums in Ableton Live with the Novation Launchpad

These instructions focus on using the Launchpad's grid to visually input a drum pattern on a single track in Ableton Live. Step 1: Set Up the Track and Drum Rack Create a MIDI Track: In Ableton Live, create a new MIDI track. Load a Drum Rack: Drag and drop an Ableton Drum Rack (found in your Live Browser under Drums ) onto the MIDI track. This ensures your pads are mapped correctly to drum sounds.
