NUS EML has two tracks that you can join. Click here for the central resource site here.

  • Track A: Electronic Music Production (click here for those resources)

    • This track is centered on composition, arrangement, sound design, and studio mixing.
    • You'll learn to how to use Ableton Live as a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), understand song components like beats, loops, and layers, essential song structures, and sound design.

  • Track B: Electronic Music Performance (this is the resource site)

    • This track is centered on playing electronic music instruments live, learning improvisation, controllerism, and playing in a group.
    • You'll learn how to play grid controllers (Launchpad or Push), launching clips, playing audio effects, and playing synthesizers live..

Sequencing a Drum Pattern on the Ableton Push

This process uses the Push's Step Sequencer to visually place notes on a timeline, which is one of the fastest ways to build a loop. Step 1: Set Up the Track and Drum Rack Select a New MIDI Track: If you don't have one ready, press the Add Track button (usually near the top right, looks like two vertical lines) and select MIDI to create a fresh track. Browse for Drums: Press the Browse button on the Push. Use the top rotary encoders (dials) to navigate to Drums and select a Drum Rack you want to use (e.g., a simple 808 or 909 kit, or a custom kit). Press the Load button to load the kit onto the selected MIDI track. Enter Drum Mode: Ensure the Push is in the correct layout by pressing the Note button. The lower 16 pads should light up in different colors, corresponding to the 16 drum sounds in your kit. Step Sequencing Drums in Ableton Live with the Novation Launchpad

These instructions focus on using the Launchpad's grid to visually input a drum pattern on a single track in Ableton Live. Step 1: Set Up the Track and Drum Rack Create a MIDI Track: In Ableton Live, create a new MIDI track. Load a Drum Rack: Drag and drop an Ableton Drum Rack (found in your Live Browser under Drums ) onto the MIDI track. This ensures your pads are mapped correctly to drum sounds.
